Servers are computing devices that support function requests from one or more computers (which are called "clients"). Most servers in a business setting are installed by either a IT technician that works for the company, or by a data tower and internet server provider. Generally, you have to rent this equipment, or rent-to-own over time.  However, there are refurbished servers you can buy and own outright. Here are the benefits of buying a refurbished server, and how to get one.

They Cost Far Less Than Brand-New Servers

Brand-new servers cost between one and six thousand dollars, depending on intended use and licensed number of access users. Of course, that is only the hardware. If you purchase server software, that will cost you extra.

Now, refurbished servers cost about half that (or less) of new servers. This makes it very affordable to buy a refurbished server for personal or business use. Just keep in mind that if you have more than twenty-five users, you will need more than one server. It is also a good idea to buy refurbished servers that are the same make in order to reduce any potential problems with use.

They Work Every Bit as Well as New Servers

Just because these servers are refurbished does not mean that they are old, worn out, broken down, or will not work well. The truth is that refurbished servers are often just gently used models of many of the latest server models you can buy. Many "refurbs" may just have been purged and rebooted with updated software, which means that they will work every bit as well, if not better, than brand-new servers for less expense.

Server Options Are Not Limited

A  lot of people see the word "refurbished" and assume that this limits their server choices and product availability. It does not. Dozens of servers with multiple storage level options are available, if you know where to look.

Where to Buy "Refurb" Servers

Buy them from telecommunications companies. Buy them from wholesale tech sales companies. Buy them from online auctions and e-tailers. If you are resourceful enough, and have access to the internet, you only have to google "refurbished servers"  to find dozens of companies that sell gently used tech. If you are not sure how much  storage in the server you need, ask an IT person, or talk to the tech representatives working at and for these companies.
